The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has announced a new funding opportunity to explore the efficacy of digital health technology (DHT) in managing type 2 diabetes.
Scope
This initiative invites clinical trial applications that leverage DHT—such as continuous glucose monitors (CGM), telemedicine, wearable activity trackers, and mobile health apps—to address barriers in diabetes care. The goal is to improve glycemic control, patient engagement, and reduce clinical inertia.
- Examine multimodality DHT interventions and virtual clinic models.
- Incorporate meaningful engagement with relevant research populations.
- Evaluate cost-effectiveness, adoption, and sustainment of DHT.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations (including small businesses), and various government entities within the United States. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply.
Partnership
Investigators are highly encouraged to establish meaningful collaborations. Partnering with industry providers of virtual diabetes clinics is allowed, though not explicitly required. Community and clinical partner engagement throughout the research process is expected to ensure practical and aligned research outcomes.
Application Due Date: October 06, 2026.
